Prince Rupert Hotel

In the heart of historical Shrewsbury, The Prince Rupert Hotel offers period features and traditional charm. Once home to Prince Rupert, the timber-framed hotel features a health club and 2 restaurants. The Royalist Restaurant serves creative dishes using seasonal produce, and is decorated with original tapestries and suits of armour. The more casual Chambers Brasserie features an open fire and oak panelling, and serves a traditional British menu. The elegant rooms have en suite bathrooms and tea and coffee facilities. Rooms also feature a TV, hairdryer and free luxury toiletries. Wi-Fi is accessible throughout, and room service is also available. Many rooms have period features, including exposed beams and sloping ceilings. Prince Rupert Hotel is centrally located in the town centre, surrounded by a maze of cobbled streets and historical buildings. The medieval Shrewsbury Castle is just 5 minutes’ walk, and The Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery is less than 500 metres away.

Pros: I liked how close it was to amenities. I was also able to leave my luggage onceI checked out. There was a large selection at breakfast, both hot and cold. The bathroom toiletries and vanity pack were a nice touch. The concierge service offerings were extensive.

Cons: The doors to the room and the fact that my room was in the basement. The net curtain was a little shredded.

Gem of a hotel

Pros: We chose this hotel for its central location. We parked in St Julian’s public car park. Free parking over night and a short walk to the hotel although it is uphill. The reception staff were friendly and offered us a welcome glass of sherry. Our room was very clean and had all the amenities needed. The bathroom was WOW!!! Room 109 very modern with a large walk in shower, separate freestanding bath and large mirror over the stylish sink with toiletries. We had to book a time slot for breakfast. We requested 9am and were told they could do 9.15 On arrival at 9.15 there were only three other people there. The full breakfast was cooked fresh but you have to ask for baked beans if you want them, they are not offered. The hotel is 16th century with lots of interesting features and creaky floorboards everywhere adding to the character of the building. Was greatly pleased to find they had a lift as well.

Cons: Having to book a time slot for breakfast. The view from the bedroom window which couldn’t be helped.
